Hi Maszona,
Sorry to know you can't visit Peru in the best period. Your friends are right, from May to October is the best period to visit Peru in general. But it's also ok to visit in October. For that, look at the "Tourism / ideal periods" in the website. The truth is that for visiting the coast (Lima, Nazca, Paracas and the north), it's one of the best periods. Not so hot like the summer (Dec, Jan, Feb) but not so cold too like the winter.
In the North (Amazonia), it's the same all over the year.
In fact, the only bad is in the interior in Peru (Cuzco, Titicaca for example). On the one hand, you will have better temperatures than in July; but on the other hand you could have more rain. Of course, it doesn't means that it's raining all the day. But sometimes in Cuzco, you could have rain during 3 or 4 hours.
The good new is that this year, Peru have a very good climate.
So, to resume: if you want to travel in October, it's ok but not perfect.
Have a nice day,
Paul
