Deysi Estela Cori Tello, born on July 2, 1993, in Lima, is an internationally renowned Peruvian chess player. She is the leading figure in Peruvian chess and one of the best players in Latin America. With several world titles in youth categories and an impressive record in international competitions, Deysi Cori is an example of perseverance, talent, and passion for the game of chess.
Born into a modest family in Lima, Deysi Cori discovered chess at a young age. Encouraged by her parents, she began playing with her brother, Jorge Cori, who would also become an international grandmaster. From the age of six, Deysi showed exceptional talent for this strategic game, winning her first local competitions. She quickly gained recognition and began participating in national and international tournaments.
Her career took a turn when she won her first national chess championship at the age of nine. Her determination and hard work allowed her to rise through the ranks, and she quickly became a standout player on the Peruvian and Latin American chess scene.
At the age of 14, Deysi Cori competed in her first World Junior Chess Championship, where she finished among the top players. But it was in 2011 that she made headlines by winning the World Junior Girls' Chess Championship, becoming the first Peruvian to claim this prestigious title. This victory was a turning point in her career, as it marked her entry into the ranks of the world’s top female players.
Her success did not stop there. She has participated in numerous international tournaments, winning several important titles in Latin America and Europe. Deysi Cori has also represented Peru in several Chess Olympiads, where she has often been one of her team’s top performers.
Deysi Cori has become a role model for young people, especially girls interested in chess. Her journey shows that it is possible to succeed in a field where women are often underrepresented. Through her achievements and commitment, she has inspired many young Peruvians to get involved in the world of chess.
Deysi Cori continues to shine on the international stage and remains a symbol of success in Peruvian sports. Her impressive journey, from Lima to world competitions, demonstrates that perseverance and talent can lead to extraordinary achievements. With several titles to her name and a promising future ahead, Deysi Cori is a true chess legend, not only in Peru but worldwide.
