Keiko Fujimori is one of the most influential and polarizing figures in Peru's recent political history, assuming the presidency in 2026. The daughter of former President Alberto Fujimori, she took her first steps in politics at a very young age, serving as First Lady in the 1990s before being elected to Congress and eventually founding and leading the conservative Fuerza Popular party.
For more than a decade, Keiko Fujimori was the country's main opposition force. After narrowly losing the presidential elections in 2011, 2016, and 2021, her rise to power in 2026 marked the culmination of a long and tumultuous political quest. Her platform has always relied on the promise of security, economic recovery, and the defense of a free-market model, attracting an extremely loyal voter base.
However, her career and presidency remain inseparable from the controversies and corruption scandals that have tarnished her image. Accused of receiving illicit funding from the Brazilian construction company Odebrecht during her previous campaigns, she has faced preventive detention on several occasions.
